For Rebecca who just lost a good friend...her horse Ivey.

Poem Artwork

The Last Post

When the tumbling weeds stop tumbling and the snow ends in the spring

he will ride again in memory when you hear the robins sing

when the clouds billow painted images you’ll see his head held high

then he’ll gallop across the heavens in a herd you'll see him fly

you may shed another tear or two for all the times you shared I know

but that old fence post tells a  story of the way things used to be a time ago

your heart retains his unbroken spirit that was only shared with you

and you know memories are forever stored to comfort and console it’s true

Fee, glad this poem wasn't that you were leaving the den, which was my first thought when I read the title.

The poem is beautiful - "you know memories are forever stored to comfort and console it's true" - truer words were never spoken. Without memories, where would we be?

Love and hugs, Kathy

It is a big loss, but animals are a blessing--think of all the good times.

This is a wonderful poem of consolation, Fee. Reading it, I could immediately picture the gallant horse galloping in the clouds. It reminded me of the old song, "Ghost Riders in the Sky."
Beautiful.

Connie
p.s. I read it because I feared you were putting your last post on AD, which would be such a loss to all of us.

Oh Fee - this made me cry........again. But I thank you so much for your heart felt compassion!
The comfort is that where she runs know she doesn't have to worry about fences confining her bright spirit.
She sure was one of those very special creatures and I can understand and accept that God wanted her for himself. Looks like He has a really good taste when it comes to his horses. **smiles**

Thanks you Fee, I love you for this!
