My father, grandfather and great grandfathers were all farmers...me I was a city boy born and raised but when I visited the farms of my grandfather and uncles I always felt such a warm comfort when the day's work was done and people sat back for a few moments after supper to relax and regroup...especially in the fall after the harvests

A Farm’s Serenity

By: fee

That old north winds blows

I heard some say

That there’ll be snow real soon

Times a passing quickly now

Since that last harvest moon

There’s winter wood

Piled high in the wood shed

The pantry shelves are full

And Momma’s in her rocking chair

Surrounded by her knitting wool

The bankers all got their money

Left a little for the cookie jar

Enough for seed, weed and feed

That Poppa said come early spring

We’re surely going to need

The kids are fighting over

The Sears and roebucks catalogue

Christmas dreams on a glossy page

In this Norman Rockwell scene

Taken from another age

Now when that old North wind

Blows colder every fall

It always stirs a memory

A favorite one for sure

Of that farm’s true serenity

There is nothing quite like living on a farm...Your poem brought back my own nostalgic memories of growing up on a farm.

Aww, how wonderful. For a city boy you've got just the right amount of farmland-novelty in your veins. Great pic, too.

I've often love to live in a farm. It's my view as an ideal life to be living in a farm, having some farm animals. I don't now why I like that, I guess each of us have our own view of an ideal lifestyle, and mine is in a farm.

My first children's story, "Best Friends" was written with a farm as the background for the story.

Nice poem Fee!!!

P.S. Please read my latest poem, I'm coming to your Halloween party too!!!... :o)

My farm-gal nostalgia rises up to meet you here, Darlin Pops! :)) A farm upbringing is synonomous with a sense of well-being, peppered with toil and struggle. But always bonding with earth, man and beast. Jaime Lee looks just the picture sitting up there and I can feel all the tractor bits through her somehow... just the smell of the axle grease does me in!! :)) xxxx Some very concrete images to grab hold of in this piece, too, which brings it all home and keeps it so very down-to-earth. xx

I, too, was a city boy, and I, too, always loved our trips out to quaint old family and friend farms. I never wanted to go home; and your poem brings me some wonderful childhood memories.

We had the family farms when I was a kid, too. Dairy Goats at ours, apples, peaches, nectarines and pears at my great aunts and table grapes at my cousins house. Lots to do at harvest time, though our farm was all year for milk, goat cheeses and eggs. We also had a large vegetable garden that went year around (So. California) and lots of fruit and nut trees. Life was busy, but it was also a lot simpler, then. Those are very fond memories for me. Thank you for sharing your memoies to jog my own.
Take care,
Sherry

Oh Fee I was sitting there going back in time sitting on my great uncles porch with family and all those kids. It was a beautiful memory for you and you brought back to life all mine. True talent of a poet when he can make you feel the crispness in the wind and feel the joy of just being there. Tantastic writes. Love and hugs, Bonnie
