Sunday is a day to celebrate the wonderful women who played such a big part in our lifes, this poem though is for all those who, often through no fault of their own lost a part of themselves that they can never forget...

Poem Artwork

Once a year it just comes around

Once a year and it drags her down

Once a year she says a silent prayer

She was once a mother too

Once a year in the little gray church

Once a year a blessed candle lit

Once a year it hurts more than a bit

She was once a mother too

Once a year she holds the baby booties

Once a year snuggles that pink blanket

Once a year an image she can’t forget

She was once a mother too

Once a year she doesn’t get a card

Once a year no breakfast in bed

Once a year no dozen roses red

She was once a mother too

Once a year…but all year long

Once a year…it seems so wrong

Once a year…sings a mother’s song

She was once a mother too…

This touches my heart...for the baby I lost and for the hearts and arms of the mothers of my (adopted) children who no longer hold their children close physically. I pray they know how close I hold their precious gift.

A thought provoking and and very moving poem Felix.

I can't imagine the grief of outliving your own child, unthinkable, unbearable...

Best wishes

Yes I too can relate to this, from my early years when child bearing was a NO SHOW..I was blessed greatly soon thereafter..Though my own daughter who is desperate for a child cannot have one, and yesterday went out of her way to stir up strife...Luckily it was late, and I was too tired to careless, didn't have the energy to take it on!
Hope she gets what she needs soon, mercy upon us all. I know the pain!

Oh, Fee. You have created one of the most touching poems ever. I doubt there is a dry eye among the people who are lucky enough to
read this. Like Christmas, Mother's Day triggers very mixed emotions for a lot of us. Those of us who haven't lost a child hold all thought of it as far away as we can manage. But we need to reach out to those who have. As you have done in this highly sensitive and exquisitely written poem. Beautifully, beautifully done, my friend. **********20********** stars!! [Albeit hard to see through tears.]

As with me...but always to be remembered: Once a Mother, always a Mother, no matter what. Thank you, Fee, for this lovely remembrance.

Very sad and moving, yet very empathetic/sympathetic that you would honor the mothers that might have been. Even those of us who are mothers yet suffered previous miscarriages can appreciate the feelings here.

Hi Fee, This hurts, because it reminds me of my sister who lost her first child in a drowning. I watched her yearly... too sad. And now that my sister has walked on to be with her daughter, I watch my mother...

Bear

Yes, Fee, you always look at the whole picture. There are many women out there that have lost a child, and are sad, or their child has chosen to not be a part of their life. It is a hard burden to bear.
Very nicely done with such a sensitive subject matter.
Peace, love, and light,
