When this old snapshot came alive
Dragged me back into a long ago time
When I was only six or maybe five
Mom would pack us all lunches
Peanut butter on home made bread
Grape or cherry cool aid in a plastic jug
Sweet sugar rushes to the head
The bus fare dime we never used
We’d always walk not take the bus
You see a dime could buy an ice cream
And our feet were good enough for us
For the little ones there was a wading pond
To splash and keep each other cool
The older kids would stand in line
To get inside the deeper adult pool
A playground with cool monkey bars
To hang upside-down at dizzying height
A merry-go-round that went so fast
You had to hold on real, real tight
Ragged towels and ragged old blanket
My those were special days for sure
But we always packed up to head for home
When the Shipyard whistle blew at four
Mom would greet us when we got home
Aromas of supper and baking on the air
Watch for your father coming home from work
Then a family supper we’d all share
Now those childhood days are long gone
Swimming pools made way for something new
But I still have this old faded photograph
And this great memory I shared with you…

There was eight children in my family and yes, beautfiul memories I have of us all outside playing baseball and all kinds of games. Sometimes Mama would get outside and play too. We played alot of badminton, hop stotch, now all most kids do now is video games. In my day there was no such thing. We played outside about all day. I sure do miss those days...no responsiblity or worries like we have as adults. Thank you Fee, for bringing me back to a happier, simpler time.
Many blessings,
~Linda
