When the one maple left standing
after the storm weeps sugar on the leaves
and the creek runs down, burdened by the heat,
the Cape Cod shuttered against rejection
will be emptied, wood floors will heave and
creak sighs from spirits between the boards
and the shadows through the broken limbs
that follow the sun into windows will look for me
in the halls. They’ll break at right angles cornered
by bare stucco walls and frieze at the revelation
that I am gone. Pronounced unholy and anointed
for last rites by light that paints the faded clapboards,
the beauty unseen remains after the wrecking ball
swings to the tick of the clock and a bid for eternity.

This is felt and seen, Linda. Sorrow, deep sentiment with a loving nostalgia all combine to make this a very compelling and moving poem. Superb flow to your words as your anguish seems to drive your pen onwards. Your love for this place gives the feel of the desolation, perhaps even guilt, that you feel at having to leave it to its fate. And your whole essence seems to know and intertwine with its very fabric. Beautifully rendered and expressed. Bless you, Kate xx
So moving and bitter-sweet... it touches me quite profoundly, Lin!

This is very effective, artistic, sincere writing. Your words create a painting in my mind. I particularly love "that follow the sun into windows will look for me in the halls."
Any requiem will be shrouded with sadness, then again, if love was there that sadness will have a secret smile at knowing that peace was declared in another place after a bid for eternity.
A poem to read and ponder.
Linda,
This poem sings, sings beauty and lament, loss and pain, the details so rich and vivid, and the fluency of expression is masterly.
A real beauty!
