MIND HOW YOU GO

Life’s waters flow so swiftly
Life’s waters run so slow
Eddies, sudden rapids -
Mind how you go.

Rivers look so calm and cool
Shaded by the green
Needing one another
In company serene

The sky is blue as summer
In winter, leaves are torn
Who enjoys the sunshine
Without a single storm?

Your paths have run together
For fifty years and three
A partnership as constant
As the river’s with the trees.

You are an inspiration
For others to survey
You’ve managed as few others do
You’ve never lost your way

Marriage is forever
You promised years ago
Holding hands proceed with love
And mind how you go.

This is a 50th anniversary poem for my parents.
