Just a light little poetry about the cats that live close to our house.

Poem Artwork

A Family of Cats

As I sit on my front porch

Talking to the neighbors cat,

His name is Fat George

Because his belly is round

Looks like it might be touching the ground

But not one of the nips he'll ever regret.

Now Slinky comes our way,

A cat baby, still small, he's a stray

But cute and cuddly, eyes so big

His long slinky tail stretched like a stick.

He sits on my lap and purrs with delight,

A cupful of milk would serve him just right.

There comes, rounding the corner so slow,

Kitty, the sweet, putting on a show

By climbing and balancing,

Whirling and dancing

On the reel of my stairs,

She thinks the world is hers.

Then Princess, the queen of the clan,

Hisses like only she can.

Her eyes so bright and slant and green,

She's noble, you'd say if you've seen

The grace that she shows when she moves,

The elegant way in which she grooves.

But trust me, she's never been inside

People's houses or close to their side,

For she's shy and scared and wild.

Slinky, the cutie is her only child.

They all are my friends,

Sourround me with love that never ends.

I watch them each day

And somehow they are no longer stray

They are part of me and my life and eat

From the plate on which I do feed

My sweet little darlings, wild and yet tame

No other pleasure could ever be the same.

The moral of this story to everyones delight

Four cats, a family, full of love, in their own right.

Birgit&Roger,
This was so enjoyable! I knew you'd love cats! They are extremely special creatures, just like you are extremely beautiful people [thank you for all you love and messages!] we have only 2 now, but as much as I can handle! JadeBelle a Persian Queen Calico, and Oliver "Eddie" a Balinese/Calico who is a trapeze and ballet artist!
Your story is warm and loving. Thank you, Beautiful Two+One!

You have a delightful and charming ready made cat family..
I believe cats are very intuitive, and only respond to kind and caring people..
I enjoyed this one Birgit and Roger !

And who was it who said "If you want to write, keep cats?"- perhaps Hemingway? Your poem brings out that state of mind which we fall into while watching cats. Well done

'Watching Cats'.

In such a simple concept, we can/could/would perceive we, which is why we can't. Watching cats, watching Nature could reveal too much of harmony to ever accomplish...

I think this 'light poetry' reveals deep symbolism, and wealth of experience, heightened and lightened by 'pet life'.

With regards,

Cats are incredible. Too many times I find them more enjoyable than humans, because they don't talk back. Granted, that's as long as you feed them. A cat not too far from me just took a 30 mile ride on the New Jersey Turnpike. It was either under the car or inside the hood. Either way a true survivor.

A wonderful story/poem! Cats truly are amazing, I have one that visits me almost daily I call it mystray. I don't know who owns her, but she never stays and I only feed her when she asks. Very independent, but a real friend that sits with me on the porch and watches the sunset;-). I always wonder how they see the colors. I live on the second floor and have a large wooden porch. she sits on a table next to my chair. Thanks for sharing ,you two are a treat to read!

And every cat is different. I have one who can open doors and warn of danger and loves to be brushed. This is a cute work.

Until about a year ago, I was not a 'cat' person, but then a small furry kitty grabbed my heart and I lost my mind and brought him home. He went from cute and cuddly to ruler of the roost. I probably wouldn't lose my mind senses again, but for now, Mr. Kitty, is special to me.
Actually his name is Ivan..as in Ivan the Terrible, but Mr. Kitty, just seemed to fit too. He knows when I call him Ivan he's in trouble, but at the same time, he also knows that he's got the 'sharper' edge on me, and can and will push his weight around.
Thanks for sharing your kitty tales with us!
