I wrote this poem to my wife after we had a disagreement over where and when to spend time.

Poem Artwork

Sometimes We Just Don’t Take The Time…

The sun comes up and there are birds in the air.

You want to show me the beauty,

but I am not there.

I am kind of busy getting ready for work right now…

Sometimes we just don’t take the time…

to share…

with one another.

My name is in the paper, it appears three times,

It’s something good.

I did not commit any crime.

You are just too busy reading a book right now.

Perhaps later you’ll take a look.

But later never comes that week.

Sometimes we just don’t take the time…

to share…

with one another.

You hear something special.

It’s on a CD.

You want to share it.

It’s got a message for you and for me.

I am busy with stuff right now.

I’ll listen to it later, when time allows.

Sometimes we just don’t take the time…

to understand…

one another.

I am singing something special, I have such joy,

I want to share my feelings, just like little boy.

You are not having a good day right now.

“Be quiet” is what you say.

Sometimes we just don’t take the time…

to understand…

one another.

You bring home something very special and new.

You make a place for it in our home

and you move things and rearrange.

I come from work tired and

I don’t even notice the change.

Sometimes we just don’t take the time…

to see like…

one another.

I write something nice that I want to share.

Oh, I see your too busy, you are

getting ready for work right now.

Perhaps you will look at it later.

Perhaps you will if you care.

Sometimes we just don’t take the time…

to see like…

one another.

The sun is setting right now.

The water is reflecting the sky above.

It’s a special time for two hearts.

You just did not want to be here right now.

Sometimes it is sad.

Sometimes it seems we are growing but not together…

Sometimes we need to take the time…

to see like God wants us to see…

with one another.

Love Eternally,

Your Husband,

John Michael

John, this is such a deeply touching poem.. I was married for 30 years, and I can say that all those words you wrote could apply to my marriage. Somehow people drift apart and when on wakes up it hits you like a bolt of lightening. There is always hope to turn things around, but both have to be on the same page!
Two ships in the night, sailing in different directions, a storm blows in and they collide,,,,,,so is life..
Peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"

There is a wealth of wisdom in this poem. I'm so glad you have written it and posted it here. It's a soul-searcher.

your words speak for so many Michael as time flys by and most don't take the time for something so precious as the love between two. My husband and I decided many years ago to put us at the top of our priority list, when we noticed we were at the bottom. Thank you for sharing a beautiful write for your wife. It will mean a lot to her.

Great tribute to you wife and so true are the words. I did not always take time for my husband too busy with my things I wanted to do. But when he became ill with COPD i realized I had to stop and listen to him more and forget my selfishness and rely on him and let him do and really listen to him. Good advice is in your poem and a wanting from your wife too.
