Gift giving is standard in many families. However, a simple response like, "Thank you, I received the gift you sent" is NOT. Is this a new generation thing? No response?

Thank You! “Thank You” is the right thing to say A “Thank You” lets folks know you care in some way A “Thank You” tells them that you got their gift safe and sound A “Thank You” really helps others know you appreciate their thoughtfulness A “Thank You” means so much and takes no time at all, so pass this around. I totally agree!! And I'm embarrased to say I have not found out how to say "thank you" to poets on Author's Den who comment on my poems.. So I make it a point to visit their page.. and I'm glad I visited yours today! :)

It is a basis thing to teach a child to say thank you and adults should know that everyone appreciates a nthank you for what they have given to them.

OK. But signing a petition to let the government and the banks know you care about the 100+ million Americans who got the shaft in foreclosures and lost home values goes farther and means more.

John, you are right on!! Iraised my own six kids to thank people for gifts and things done for them but my grandchildren arenotorious for not thanking me for gifts mailed to them. A phone call would suffice, even a text or e-mail so that I'd at least know they received the gift. This generation is lacking in manners in many ways. Thanks for pointing it out.

A wonderful thought about being courteous expressed in your poem.

To me, the whole idea of gift giving has taken a lot of my attention. When I was young we were always exchanging gifts that were rather meaningless and materialistic. As I grew older I tried to give gifts with great meaning and usefulness. They weren't always appreciated, but that's okay. I'm like you in your poem. I found that I have received many thank yous in hand written notes from younger members of my family when I have acknowledged their graduations and marriages. Maybe my family is just a bit old-fashioned in that regard.
