What was your childhood like? Did you folks set good examples? Did they make you a better parent today?

Our Children: Should they Listen to What We Say? I recall my childhood very well, even until this day. He would tell me not to smoke, do not drink and go to church and pray Then dad would smoke a lot, drink a little and always sleep in on Sundays! My dad also used to say to me, "DON’T do as I do; DO as I say!" That sets a poor example; only a fool would think that way! I vowed not to take advice from dad and I am a better man for it today! Instead I try to set a good example; it works out better that way! It’s not easy avoiding the pitfalls of life, but falling down a pit will lead to agony and strife “Actions speak louder than words” wise folks say! It’s my motto for our children; it’s the RIGHT way! © Aug, 2017 John Michael Domino

HMMMM, WELL...WE ALL HAVE OUR STORIES. AND MINE IS...I AM TODAY EXACTLY WHAT GOD KNEW I WOULD BE. FOR, EVEN FROM THE WOMB, I WAS SHAPED TO BE THE PERSON I AM TODAY. MY CHILDREN? HONESTLY, THEY GOT THE BEST AND WORST OF ME. AND I THANK GOD THAT HE LOVES THEM, JUST LIKE HE LOVES ME, THUS REGARDLESS OF IT ALL...HE WILL BRING THEM ALSO TO WHERE HE WANTS THEM TO BE. AMEN. each of my parents had the best idea, and I lived in two places most of my life summer and winter., so my example to my son and foster kids we did a lot of talking more than I grew yup with lessons with pour child trial and error if talking didn't work we asked what I grew up with the rod with him he didn't .we worked together loved it hugs

We should all do what we say. That would resolve the problem and make life easier for our children.

My father was like yours, exactly. But then, after 20 years, he stopped smoking in the middle of a carton, in the middle of a pack. It was a good lesson. Dad never used foul words to express his anger and never used bile words about other people, races or other prejudices. He allowed me to explore and make mistakes on my own. He was ideal, as was my mom.

From your poem, I can see that you had great parents. So did I. Everyone should have parents like ours. The world would be a much better place.

Nobody is born knowing how to be a parent, we just muddle through it doing the best we can, and hope for the best. Maybe that's why so few can say they had a happy childhood.
