A New and Beautiful World will Rise on the Ruins of the Old…

This piece views Biblical eschatology through a lens of Norse Mythology. “I believe that legends and myths are largely made of truth.” J.R.R. Tolkien.

Poem Artwork
(1) “Hearing I ask, from the holy races, from Heimdall's sons, both high and low,
thou wilt, Valfather, that well I relate old tales I remember of men long ago.
(2) I remember yet the giants of yore, who gave me bread in the days gone by,
nine worlds I knew, the nine in the tree, with mighty roots beneath the mold.
(59) Now do I see the Earth anew, rise all green from the waves again.
(64) There shall the righteous rulers dwell, and happiness ever there shall they have.
(65) There comes from on high, all power to hold, a mighty Lord, all lands He rules.”

‘Lays of the Gods,’ Voluspo, Vol #1
The wise woman’s prophecy.
Translated by Henry Adams Bellows.

.
Formerly, it was an era of concord and treaty,
a time when the Humanistic Renaissance of man
rediscovered the sleeping arts and philosophies
of the ancient Greeks and Romans…
.
A time advanced when
Man revived individual vision as
a corollary set within the boundaries of
imaginative fraternity: initiatives placed as
meaningfulness on shelves, bric-a-brac policies
to be accepted or rejected as the heaving of breasts…
.
Once unwavering,
.
Heimdall sounded his great horn
while hailing Ragnarok (doom of the gods)
at the onset of Fimbulvetr (the winter of all winters)
when the wolf Skoll would lastly devour the sun, and
Hati, his angry brother, would eat the moon….
.
During a time of great planetary transition,
.
Loki, son of Cruel-Striker, (brooding in the crags)
mocked humanities efforts. Ways forged in prevision
of novel societal stratagems (lacking fairness and justice)
encroaching on parishes as snakes along the unguarded
paths of egalitarian shapeshifters…
.
All the Warriors joined together
.
RAISE THE HORN
FILL IT WITH HONEY
TOAST THE BATTLE
.
And while wedges were being driven between all that
was intended as good and honorable, lightning etched a sharp
line through the heavens. Thor… riding his chariot laughing, as
he sought Jormungand, the Midgard Serpent, for reckoning…
.
Raising their swords in pledge, all the Warriors cried out:
‘THE TIME HAS COME FOR ALL MEN TO REAP WHAT THEY HAVE SOWN.’
.
With all the ideals (and failures) of modern imagination,
disastrous policies rooted in murky subterranean pits,
politics cloaked on the surface as abundant atolls,
moistened with a dew of false terrestrial peace,
set amidst a forming Tempest…. LOOK UP!
.
A GREAT LIGHT
is nearing,
and soon following,
a new and beautiful world
will rise on the ruins of the old….

Isaiah 11:6-9 describes the Kingdom Age as such:
“The wolf will live with the lamb,
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling together;
and a little child will lead them.
The cow will feed with the bear,
their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
The infant will play near the cobra’s den,
and the young child will put its hand
into the viper’s nest.
They will neither harm nor destroy
on all my holy mountain,
for the earth will be filled with
the knowledge of the Lord
as the waters cover the sea….”
.
NORSE CHARACTERS:

MY FRIEND, AS YOU PROBABLY HAVE ALREADY SURMISED(I HAVE BEEN ON AD SINCE 2009)...I AM NOT INTO MYTHOLOGY...OF ANY KIND. BUT, FROM WHAT I COMPREHEND HERE...I DO THINK THAT MANY BELIEFS DO 'SEEM' TO INTERTWINE. I USED THE TERM 'SEEM' BECAUSE WE KNOW THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUE GOD WHO 'CREATED AND MADE THE HEAVENS, THE EARTH AND SEA AND ALL THAT IN THEM IS'. 'WE'....KNOW HIM. HE HAS MANY NAMES; JEHOVAH, YAHWEH, LION OF JUDAH, BRIGHT AND MORNING STAR, LILY OF THE VALLEY, PRINCE OF PEACE...LIGHT OF THE WORLD, HOLY SPIRIT, ETC. AND WE ALSO KNOW ONE DAY WE WILL ALL STAND BEFORE HIM TO BE JUDGED AND A NEW HEAVEN AND NEW EARTH WILL DESCEND FROM HEAVEN LIKE 'A BRIDE ADORNED FOR HER HUSBAND'...WHEREBY THIS OLD WRETCHED WORLD WILL PASS WAY AND A SPOTLESS, PRISTINE, UNIMAGINABLE NEW WORLD WILL EXIST FOREVER AND EVER. AND, AS YOU WELL KNOW, THIS IS NOT A MYTH OR A TALE WRITTEN TO ENTERTAIN OR THAT WAS COPIED OUT OF SCRIPTURE.. TO FEED THE APPETITE OF UNBELIEVERS...THIS MY DEAR BROTHER IN CHRIST...IS A RIVETING, STALK...REALITY! FOR 'WE' BELIEVE IN THE ONE AND ONLY 'CREATOR'...NOT THE CREATED! INDEED, WE HAVE A PROMISE FROM GOD HIMSELF THAT WILL NOT FAIL! 'BLESSED ASSURANCE, JESUS IS MINE...I'M WATCHING AND I AM WAITING LOOKING ABOVE...I'M FILLED WITH HIS GOODNESS...I'M LOST IN HIS LOVE!' WHAT A DAY THAT WILL BE, SOONER... THAN LATER... AMEN!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING THIS CERTAINLY IN DEPTH WORK. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

A lot of thought and scholarship went into this. I would modify J.R.R. Tolkien's quote: Legends and myths that have their origins in real events. But word-of-mouth passing down through generations of tales what happened generally gets them exaggerated until they are firmly put in written language that is also manipulated and often exaggerated by the writer and interpreters –. Readers of these legends find the stories to be heroic and wonderful. Some people even wish to live in the life of legends. There are probably people who believe that dragons exist, or existed in some legendary past.

I am often accused of not understanding your poems. I believe you are not writing about the whole world globalization economy gradually leaving the United States and the G7 behind. Instead, you are writing about Americans arguing over how to govern our great country wasting money doing it that could be helping to enhance the world economy rather than trying to make, America great again. By closing our borders, and buying American?

But you also refer to the biblical coming of a new world after the collapse of the evil one we are now in. Already, we are seeing high figures who thought they were immune being brought to justice. I believe we'll see more as time goes on.

A very thoughtful and well written piece. I hope your prediction comes true and the lion lays down with the lamb.

I see you so evolved ahead of time as I have said before, your futuristic soul...... As I've said also a new swell is breaking unto a new earth from the whirlwinds and those that have sown in darkness will reap the harvest of great tribulation sadness and those who have sown for the cause of Kingdom will reap some several fold Goshens..... A spiritual breached birth of darkness will be stopped to the innocent meek, count on it Brother...And all will be made new...My sadness is great for the suffering many who remain unrepentive stiff necked by choice.....To those who choose to repent will be the greatest jubilee for them.....I've asked myself millions of times why he chose our spirit's upon this earth NOW of all time in the billions of years. It is because many are the Sons of Levi tribe as some of His vessels restoring a new earth through the old into the new and we know one another so profound, most of are the strongest . This is the showdown of the testing in faith beweeen light and dark ... Shalom

Very interesting read, as I'm buried in a series of Biblical history books for my job. Series of books by James Montgomery Boice, mostly on the prophets of old. I've always been a fan of history... all kinds.

Tolkien has been rather clever in his writings and always gives pause to my mind as I take him in.
