He was a simple man but not simple as one may assume
There were no ovations impulsive or otherwise when he quietly entered the room
I recall many times when I quarreled with an answer he gave to a question I had asked him to remedy
I remember his answer was simply, “suit yourself.” And he quietly walked away from me
I can also remember the many, many times when my way failed and I came to him once more because things were not what I thought they would be
He never said, “I told you so,” or, “You should have listened to me.”
He simply would help me to put things right for he was a man of few words but one who saw what must be done
That is the reason in my mind’s eye if there was an annual award to be won
He was the winner from the day I was born till his Earthly days were done
And today I am the father of three. It is my hope that when they speak of me
They will feel the same kind of love I felt for my dad
If I have not given reason for them to rejoice it would leave me sad
For Dear old Dad was more an idol to me
And I pray to God that I have given as much to my three
This way, I know I keep the name “Dad” as a name to revere
And have given memories that they will always hold dear
Giving them every reason and motivation to say
Now and forever “Have a Happy Fathers day”
