As a young man I tried to conquer the world but it seemed I failed
For I found life was like a rough ocean that must be sailed
As I grew older I set my goals with more deliberation
I planned with more care and greater determination
At one time I felt that failure was something predestined
It seemed obvious that to try was a waste of exertion
One day as I looked back upon these unsuccessful disappointments
I saw them not total disasters but in reality achievements
For I walked away from each having learned, life’s greatest accomplishment
If you try and fail that failure still holds its benefits
Each is an experience and one can learn from it
