 Time Bandit

Oh, where does the time go?
I had it just a moment ago,
but it slipped through my fingers,
when it was going so slow.

I may have left it there,
in that drawer of old watches,
all wound down in due time.

I may have left it,
down by the river,
when fishing in my prime.

I may have left it,
between the snatches,
of multitasking mime.

Wherever it is, it's gone,
in that ever winding grind,
in the devilish details line.

That never ends or bends,
until we reach the end,
of our allotted mind.

The time bandit rules,
and steals from the fools,
wasting days and nights.

Am I one of those?
Because of my woes,
losing so many fights?

We'll never know,
it's gone with the go,
as the starting gun fires.

So I'll race to the line,
and make it just in time.

‘Cause my heart reels,
when the Time Bandit steals,
and I have run out of rhyme.

Where does the time go, Ron. So fast especially when you are writing. Then all of a sudden, it's time to get tea. Cheers

Hi Ron, One of your best, a spot-on way of noting that something important is a work even when we're not. I'm reminded of a scene in the movie "Beat he Devil" when in a bar (where else?) someone asks Peter Lorre, "what is time?" His pause says it all, as he raises his glass (or did he just stare at - no matter, he says, with a tone and meter that only he had: "Time is a thief." By the way, Beat the Devil was ironically made by a whole bunch of people as a spontaneous act against boredom when they were together with too much time on their hands!

Wonderful, lyrical poem about the "time thief" and all of our limitations to escape him. I enjoyed this very much.

Lyrical piece using appropriate time devices, a skill that I admire.
As the farmer I once worked with in my teens - and I do mean teens - used to say, "Time goes on." I learned that this was his way of punctuating a conversation, no matter who started it, that he had no interest in developing. As I get older it seems that time itself has taken a leaf from his book and is similarly keen to punctuate each DAY long before I get round to developing it.
Incidentally, have you seen the Time Bandits film? Be great to have that map.

Time is a silent thief. It cannot be felt, seen or contained, only measured. Link to the past seem to keep some memories vivid while others fade in moments. One moment in time can last a lifetime in ones mind. You have catured time as it exists within our fleeting moment we share of it.

Stay well and keep writing

Thank you, Ron

An interesting use of something that might be called doggerel rhyme, but not used for a trivial subject. A sensitive piece of of verse showing how Time slips out of our lives without warning us.

The theme you share via your verses here is an ageless and universal one, Ron. I can relate. Sometimes when I close my eyes, I can almost feel time flowing past my face... ...like a breeze. Love and peace,

... just shows how we must make the most of the moment, Ron, realising that's all we've ever got. I was very struck by our Gold Medal Longjumper underlining how life is mostly about defeat and "downers", rather than the few-and-far-between "ups", and, like this poem, it hardened my resolve to keep perspective and not be fooled by the elusive carrot on a stick. Superbly rendered with your customary clarity and precision... tick-tock! :)) xx

The tiume bandit leaves us always wishing for about thirty hours in every day. I don't think thee's a solution, but it's fun to talk about it. Whoops! The time bandit just struck again!!!

RON ... WELL SAID, FRIEND!

As I just told my Lady yesterday:

The Past is History - we cannot Change it - it is Gone!
The Future is Tomorrow - we have no Control!
The Present - TODAY -is ALL we have ... Use it Wisely! ENJOY IT!

"Time & Tide wait for No man!"

Peace ... Tom...

The older we get, the faster the time flies. In polite, white society I have to find a way to exist in Mountain Time, but in my mind, I'm always on Injun Standard Time.

the 'time bandit' met its match with Rod Taylor's 'time machine' - i prefer the Meinhart and Jenkins 'time machine' - every pass was music to my ears on the Northeast, MD tarmac on Saturday nights - Ed Ames knew that "time, time, stirs the endless sea, makes the stars go round to sky's bright song" - so stop thief, stop - I wish you love and peace my friend - Jon Michael

We are are own time bandits; sometimes with the help of an accomplice or two...
We can throw away time the way St François gave his father's money away. It all depends on the motivation, I guess...

Tic tic tic even if not a watch is worn, or a clock to see so does the sun rise and set. What is... is... and if we could only stop the morning and dawning of it. Unfortunately, it is reality and we grow, we change, we learn, we regret, and we just wish time could be halted.

Like Jerry, I'm always happy when I wake up and notice for one my name is not in the obituary and I am still on this side of the grass :)

Wonderful poem to time Ron
