While successfully avoiding some of the biggest time wasters, social clubs, sports, gambling and card games. As well as the aforementioned social networks and cell phone texting and sexing, I'm still finding that my time for real writing shrinks after I try to attend to daily maintenance duties.

Time Gone

So it goes, and nobody really knows,
ticking, trickling, frittering away.
ever wonder where the time's gone?
and why it's not here to stay?

Seemed to have a lot of time,
when I was young, to play,
had lots of time for fun, still,
with so much done every day.

And then, I got to working much more,
eighty hours or more a week… Still, somehow,
with lots of time to travel and explore.

Retiring was expected to give me time,
to relax and write, learn and relate,
with others without an appointment date.

But something insidious is at work,
time wasters are there in the lurk,
I know what they're doing, luring,
but my work ethic just won't shirk.

So I deal with each and every  one.
Surveys, inquiries, requests for cash,
the compliance requirements, empty cache,
brought on by safety and security balderdash.

Incessant commercials suck up,
and break up, entertainment time.
As though I would buy from them,
spending my last precious dime.

Health requirements keep growing,
with ever carnivorous advancing age.
Constant reminders of required medications,
appointments becoming the rage.

I still put in the long working day.
And find that I have little output,
to show for my nonexistent pay.

So if you're wondering,
where the time goes?
Down the black hole of Facebook,
that I haven't even joined yet.

And the greatest time waster of all,
the cell phone disaster just waiting for,
you, when you're driving, to call.

I don't own one of those either…
So, where did that time go?

An intriguing composition... Its well painted situation makes one develop a cerebration on the subject dealt.

"Time Gone" sings its lines in harmonious voice of poetic expression. I enjoyed every word of this poem

I don't do any of those things either, Ron but just the demands of life rob me of the time I want to spend creating.

My dad used to say, "The faster I go, the behinder I get!" I think that's true. I have found that the older I become, the faster time goes by. Once time is gone, it can not be found again nor can it be replaced........M A lot of thought went into this write!

There is consistency in this camp. Your expression is intact and applicable to everything human. Peace to you... r

Ron, we had no concept of time when we were playing...only because we didn't work, have appointments and such. We each have to decide for ourselves what to do with our time...what our priorities our. Time changes everything and every concept out there. This world is forever changing and if we didn't have the internet I would never have met you.

Always,

Deborah

WHEN I WAS IDLE & 10
A YEAR THEN
SEEMED LIKE IT TOOK FOREVER
BUT NOW THAT I'M 71
A YEAR MELTS
LIKE BUTTER ON THE SUN
I BELIEVE ITS THE AGE
THAT SETS THE STAGE
THAT MAKES ONE THINK
A DAYS A BLINK
THE HOURS SEEM TO FLY
WHEN THEY REALLY HAVEN'T
FOR NOW WE BUSY & WISE
AND REALISE
THERE'S MUCH WORK TO DO
DO IT NOW...DON'T CAN IT!

THANKS FOR SHARING, ENJOYED, RON. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE *HIS INSPIRATIONS

You make some very valid points in this poem, Ron. I am amazed at how time seems to flow past my face like a breeze and how it seems to speed up as the months and years go by. Love and peace to you,

Regis

Good questions, Ron. The time just goes and it seems we don't have the "events" anymore to tie memories in with the time. It is like there is a vacuum sucking all of the time from our lives. A bitter vetch as we realize we have so little of it left.

Ron, I can easily relate to your lament. I'm not into the vices of social networking, rabid texting or the ilk of twitter, and still time simply vanishes unexplained. I began a bit of an informal time study but the constant interruptions and appointments kept disrupting me. May love and peace be always with you my dear friend. Jon Michael

whether or not having fun,
and then it's over for us,
when our time is done.

Facebook, yes to promote my work. Cell phone no, even though my students cry out that I am retarded, redundant, reclusive and that I need a phone. But I digress. I thoroughly enjoyed this romp thru the exegencies of time, where does it come from, where does it go, and above all, as you comically point out, what happened when it was here. You need to "find time" for more poems like this, Ron. John

A pertinent question. Skillfully written as is your norm. Likewise i use no phone but too many interruptions. My wife says I nap each afternoon but it is needed to revive my thoughts and give me energy before the end of the day. There will be time one day which we call eternal rest. May it be delayed as long as is required but a time to recall all our life's achievements. Unfortunately no afternoon tea but the conversation with friends will be awesome.

No matter what frivolous endeavor I find myself in. I almost always, ALWAYS get one poem written a day. My poems may be somewhat like Richard posted today that I plow endless furrows, in that , in his words, "Writers/poets/ grinding out one write after another. Quantity instead of quality."

I probably wouldn't recognize "quality" poetry if it reached up and bit me on the ass . . . Anyway, time is the same as it has been, sixty seconds to a minute, etc. It is our mindset and social obligations which diminish it in our eyes.

You are one fortunate lifer. The number of distractions that take up far too much time of the average citizen is obnoxiously HUGE, to quote one of the more insecure users of such social interaction. Yes, time does fly, and one can only hope it best used to savor every moment of consciousness, assuming there's some consciousness still around. Pavlov's dogs are laughing.
