People go to great lengths to disguise their real persona when it comes to publishing, interaction with others, and especially, on the Internet. Some are afraid of going to jail and others are just plain, paranoid.

Saving Face

Saving face is no disgrace,
just ask a politician.

With a nom de plume,
in an obscure chat room,
put on a face of no recognition.

Save your new face,
by putting it in a safe place,
just below any cognition.

When you don't have an ace,
to put them in their place,
your only saving grace,
is a silly anonymous face?

But then, it could just be a condition.

Some save their face,
by Botox and foundation base,
the lines to erase,
the sun's evil trace.

Showing tracks of a life,
lived with much exposure.

Not to worry, a surgeon will,
give you a monied makeover.

So you can put on a new face,
and not face the disgrace,
that age brings to your persona.

You can turn the other cheek,
get cheeky with a young geek,
and hitchhike off to Arizona.

So, put a smile on that face,
that deep frown, erase,
your character is firmly,
already in the right place.

Unless you're paranoid.

I will take your advice and come to Amazon a. I suspect it will be warm. But I don't need to hide my face in Scotland as it is always hidden by scarf or a hat on umbrella! Best wishes Miller

Ron,
Nice poem. Yes I my self have many faces. Not sure which one worth saving.

I try to put on a Happy Face, every day - and my dogs always help me to do that.

I fully admit to "putting on masks." I would not have been able to teach high school if I had not put on the mask of the comedian and used my sense of humor even if I was weeping inside. And, you are also right about the Internet. I tend to be careful what I express as I abhor conflict and I am afraid to offend anyone. Good, thought-inciting poem, Ron. Love and peace,

Regis

SO MANY DIFFERENT FACES TO SAVE, FOR SO MANY DIFFERENT PLACES AND SO MANY DIFFERENT PEOPLE...WHY NOT JUST BE WHO WE REALLY ARE? THEN THERE'S ONLY 'ONE' FACE TO 'CARRY' ABOUT. AS ALWAYS, YOUR SHARINGS PROVOKE AN ANSWER. THANKS, RONALD. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Personally I have always felt that I was definitely not paranoid, especially on the net...I say it like it is, speak to what I feel & in general not worry about the outcome...afterall, the internet is just a fantasy land anyway as is this life we are living...interesting write, Ron, bringing forth interesting thoughts & such...-e-

We all live within the characters we developed for ourselves in our formative years. There are few individuals who do not want to be viewed as best looking, most intelligent, compassionate and credible. And ego is a compelling force! You gave me an interesting review of personalities I have not consciously delved into for many years. Thanks, Ron. May peace and love be always with you my friend.

The Internet is a breeding ground for putting on masks as you point out. You can run, but you can't hide from self. Another poem that's spot on.

Judgment does obscure our vulnerable faces to conjure up a better one.. guess we're afraid by other's judgment or just plain ours..

I think with the progression of age it gets easier to just 'be yourself'...and the whole process becomes self selecting...if people don't like what they see... Then we can smile and say...
"Frankly my dear I don't give a damn...."

Good one, Ron. But your mask's downcast eyes and blushing cheek betray a sense of sly mystique - a playfulness oblique-a-peek, we might be playing hide and seek ...

An interesting "take" on the many faces that people can assume, in the name of protecting their true self somehow. The last full stanza rings true amid all the false faces. John

All the makeup and makeovers in the world never change the actual person. This poem makes a lot of sense. Thank you for sharing it.

Love ya!
