The people have spoken through their vote for who they want to make the right decisions that will benefit everyone in this country. But the whole world quickly is becoming our home and watching. Calm and dedicated hard work is what is necessary to face the problems of global warming, clean drinking water, healthy food and the poisoning of our air, land and oceans with our wide-ranging activity and insatiable unnecessary consumption.

Calm on the Western Front

There's a real need for calm on the Western front.
The battle is over and the anger is spent.

A time for examining what was right or wrong.
A time for healing and singing a different song.

Big problems are pressing from the land and the sky.
Largely ignored as months, years and decades go by.

While we squabble over personality, scandal, money and fame.
The world keeps turning; these problems keep yearning;
and everybody should already know… who is to blame.

We all want more and take more than we need or give.
Greed has riddled our planet until it's looking like a sieve.

When big problems appear we ignore them or lie,
nobody wants blood on their hands taking their piece of pie.

In the aftermath of the battle we have to decide,
do we feather our nest further or take the good side.

Do we demean who we think are the lesser of us?
Or do we lift them up to our level without any fuss?

The calm will not last if we continue to bicker,
while big problems get bigger, wider and thicker.

When they come down upon us even with much warning,
will we pull out our guns and shoot until we are mourning?

The choice is quite clear and the task is at hand.
It's time to roll up our sleeves and bring true calm,
to everyone, able to excel or not, in this great land.

Yes, it is time for calm, but doubt it will ever come to pass. Think we will find calm only after a nuclear strike, which with our new pres we might see sooner than later...-e-

At the core of success to resolve the challenges the world community faces is an honest desire to peacefully coexist. Until we internalize that premise nothing of value will be accomplished. Lesser is a relative term and divisive, we are all brothers and contributors in our own way. Let's urge all of our brothers and sisters to understand we must be one.

Very wise words and warning. Too bad we don't always listen.

You cite the obvious truth: The choice is quite clear and the task is at hand.

How long has that handwriting been on the wall? Things just seem to get uglier over the great divides.

This is one of your better efforts. "Greed has riddled our planet until it's looking like a sieve."

It is full of prescient wisdom and practical advice. And it raises the right questions in search of an answer. "Do we demean who we think are the lesser of us?"

As you aptly say at the end, it is time to act, not excel, to thrive on the land.

There is so much to be done Ron, may it all be done with compassion wisdom with an eye toward the welfare of our people. Riots in the streets help no one, no matter who had won the election this unlawful behavior is unacceptable and destructive to the peace of all people.

"Who is to blame?"...wonderful take on current events of the times! Who to blame? Perhaps a leading group would be the "I want it now" group: the millenniums! Became spoiled "brats." Not only want it now but, not accepting decision other than their own.Shall we blame it on their parents?

This is America. Votes count. Mr. soon-to-be president Trump won. You might not like him, or whatever you think of him. He won.

Every single person upon the face of this earth should get it together and face reality. The reality that instead of greed we must face the need of others. If people would work together as much as they do for political candidates, we could clean this planet up.

Love ya!

I agree with Odin. it seems that for every step forward, mankind takes 2 steps back. And for as civilized as we'd like to think we are, it's just a veneer. It also seems like we've been dumbed down so much that we now only want to be entertained.

Your poem asks us to have hope and "do" something about the malady. I would only add that: a-too many decisions are made by knee jerk emotion. Most not investing thinking into their decision. 2- we are a rapidly becoming a narcissistic and solipsistic society. As long as Me Me Me dominates human behavior, the hopes of your poem has little chance of changing hearts and minds. BTW, this was an excellent appraisal and plea for some sense to creep back into our species.
