Like it or not, we are always on the verge of death, individually and collectively. So why not make this life the best it can be for everyone during our short time here?

Edge of a Verge

Are we on the verge of something good?
Or, are we on the verge of something bad?

A question of truth, for we've all been had.
So, what are we on the verge of--good or bad?

Our lives are so short, we are always on the verge of death.
So, shouldn't we burn our lives fast until our last breath?

Or should we relax and huddle by the fire?
Wouldn't want to raise anyone's unnatural ire.

For life is long and life is most generally, good.
Should we go by the motto: "Yes, we should?"

The verge is an urge always there pushing us on.
The coming of an ending both violent and strong.

There is no defense when we cross over the edge,
no more hemming and hawing, no time to hedge.

Reality hits us hard and we act as one,
Will we be too late? Or will we have won?

No one can predict the future, but data doesn't lie.
The unknown is fantasy, but facts reveal like a spy.

Data can foresee a problem before it is real.
Data can foresee the future, unbiased without feel.

So before that next wallop comes around the bend,
get yourself up, out, and active before, "The End."

Most probably, this is wise advice, Ron. I feel an "uncertainty" in these troubled and chaotic times. Love and peace,

I felt a warmth in my eyes by the end of this reading. We live such busy chaotic lives perhaps unknowingly propelled by our faith pulling us to an early 'end'. Thank you Mr. Hull for helping us understand not to judge others by their seeming lack of discipline in not living 'orderly' lives.

Time will certainly answer your first two questions. I choose to fully embrace eschatology. Everything that can be shaken will be shaken in order to reveal those things that cannot be shaken. We are in those days. All the best...

An excellent poetic warning that one can apply to many experiences, especially the present experience of what many feel is White House mockery. Tell enough lies and even the strongest become jaded and sigh, WTF and have another drink.

A courageous exploration, Ron, unavoidable questions presented in strong form.

There is always an end. What ever we do must have an ending even if we did not anticipate it as it happens, none the less we are part and parcel of life's end.

Ron,
Nice and thought provoking.
I like to think the fall is good, since I suffer less now. Many bad things that I have thought and worried about did not happen, and I ended up suffering for no reason.

These days, as I round the bend, I throw caution to the wind.

I'm waiting to see what it's going to take to push that barrel over those falls and I don't think that it's going to take much more. Great write!

Love ya!

Ah, a "pondering" kind of poetry coming from your metaphorical pen.As we grow older most of understand that death is imminent, although many go out of the way to act like death will not affect them. The realist, however, know differently. We accept it, although we might search our brain for another way out, as I have done with my belief in reincarnation. Escapism? I strongly feel it is not.

Wondering what the data is that you refer to toward the end of the poem. I agree data presents facts and can make predictions, but data about what. Hopefully not data about the end. John

You're right, better to feel better when die we must,
For either way when we die we turn to dust,
Allow yourself to feel that sexual lust,
Before we go to our graves & bust...-e-

This was enjoyable to read. Can't help feeling your recent Presidential Inauguration has had an effect on this subject matter.
