Are we genetically inclined to kill?

Killing Machine Gene

On the food chain of nature,
Man is in between,
always killed for food,
with a killing gene.

Survival of the fittest,
orders the nature of things,
removing the weakest,
giving intelligence wings.

To shape the natural order,
in favor of the best,
and let the harsh environment,
take care of the rest.

A territorial imperative,
ruling for the masses,
those with the most territory,
gaining power as time passes.

It started with family,
and local tribal feuds,
branched out to villages,
when war began, still eludes.

But war has become a part,
of the order of all things,
we call it, "defense,"
when offensive it rings.

The nations of earth,
are always at war,
whether it be international games,
or to settle some old score.

We create weapons,
meant for our defense,
but then use them unwisely,
as a means of offense.

For the gene of killing,
is ingrained in our soul,
so we would rather get even,
than forgive and console.

The weapons of war,
are readily at hand,
so that we can use them,
in some ill-fated stand.

When will we ban,
the weapons of war?
Become a brotherhood of man,
stop settling the score?

 Reviews of "Killing Machine Gene"

Yes, as one reviewer stated, "Never."
My beloved Daddy, who lived through the depression and saw many wars, as he lived from 1914 til 2007, always said, "we have too many people in the world, so war is inevitable." Jesus said "the just suffer with the unjust".
It's not a matter of too many guns, it's a matter of too many evil, rebellious hearts, who thumb their nose at God, and declare their self-sufficiency. Woe is man, for sadly the majority are choosing the broad way which leads to destruction. So much so that God is sending the "strong delusion" as their consequence, and they're falling for it, hook, line and sinker.
As long as man is his own god, he will choose to kill rather than savor life.
"For the gene of killing
Is engrained in our soul,
So we would rather get even,
Than forgive and console."
How true!

Salutations to the Sovereign Lord Poet of this poetic Castle.

The Scroll has been posted, and this courtier is impressed with the Ammo of its words.

"Killing Machine Gene" sings to consciousness of our social commitment to harmony and peace; and delivers a wise message through its golden lines.

This poem has all the contents to fuel the wings of imagination; and lead one to cerebrate on the Welfare of the Human Race.

Viva the Poet!

In reverent appreciation,

Beautiful! It captures a truth about where we stand in the evolution of man. We are caught in a cycle ruled by violence in so many ways. Bravo, Ron!

The answer is never. War has been around since the beginning of time and did not appear in any hurry to leave. We can always hope that human beings wise up and decide to put down their arms to stop the wasting of lives.

WHEN? ONLY WHEN ONE CAN ACCEPT THE FACT THAT GOD AND GOD ALONE 'SETTLES' ALL SCORES. ONLY HE CAN DO IT JUSTLY. FOR HE IS NOT LOOKING TO HURT BUT TO SAVE ALL OF US...FROM OURSELVES. 'VENGEANCE IS MINE' SAYEST THE LORD OF LORDS. WE'VE GOT TO SURRENDER ALL OF OUR JUSTIFIED 'HURTS' TO HIM. HE WARNS US IN HIS WORD NOT TO SEEK TO REPAY EVIL FOR EVIL...WE HAVE TO LEARN TO TRUST GOD MORE THAN WE TRUST OURSELVES. WE FALL IN LOVE WITH 'THE BALM OF GILEAD' WHO IS ABLE TO HEAL ALL WOUNDS, EVEN THOSE WE THINK ARE UN-HEALABLE. WE ARE WARNED IN REVELATIONS EXACTLY WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN WE SEEK TO DO OTHERWISE... 'MAKE THINGS RIGHT' ON OUR OWN...WE WILL EVENTUALLY DESTROY OURSELVES. ACTUALLY, 'WE' ARE THE WEAPONS OF WAR AND OUR POLITICIANS REFUSE TO MAKE LAWS WHICH WILL LIMIT OUR POWER TO SELF-DESTRUCT. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE,BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

So sadly true, Ron. Coincidentally, before I read your poem, I was talking to a friend and mentioned exactly the same theme to him (not as eloquently as you have here, of course). Your poem reminds me of John Lennon's "Imagine." Thank you for sharing. Love and peace with hope,

Regis

You implore the reader to become one with your premise and for those rejecting such an invitation, shame on you. If only we could all "get along." That's an alternate universe, I'm afraid.

Ah, all those guns, they were meant to be fun (for those who think that hunting is fun) or as protection "in the wild west" perhaps. But now, who wants to protect the rights of people to buy automatic weapons of war and just kill people, Children killing children. Something is wrong and our esteemed elected congressmen(and women) don't seem to get it.
