Just thinking about people who hope for things like winning the lottery or marrying into money rather than improving themselves and their situation. Sorry, but I never read Barack Obama's Audacity of Hope.

Hope

Don't be a dope,
and rely on hope,
when things don't go your way.

And, please don't just cope,
with dope or the Pope,
work for a brighter day.

Bury that hatchet,
and the money to match it,
it's way beneath you.

A disease when you catch it,
why let hope fetch it,
when sunny skies are blue.

So get out of the dump,
turn around that slump,
you're better than you hope.

Hope is a speed bump,
get over that hump,
never again have to cope.

Clinging to the frayed rope,
of diminishing hope.

Hope starts the journey, and then it's up to us to turn hope into action. Enjoyed your words of wisdom.

We can have hope, but fools rely only on hope for their future.

ENJOYED THIS ONE Ron

SOUNDS LIKE ME AS OF MY LATEST
BEEN IN THE HOLE OR DUMP FOR A WHILE FINDING IT HARD
TO ESCAPE AND FEEL LIKE MYSELF OF OLD...…
PEACE BE WITH YOU

Everything starts with hope but without action hope will fail us. Well penned, Ron.

Hope has its place, but it is also misplaced. Reminds me of my recent poem about False Hopes. They can do no right.

Hope is okay if it's a byproduct of acting with good purpose to achieve your goals. One can only hope that the hope produced by such acts is a spark to light the flame in the hearts of those around you. Hope may be an illusion, but sometimes illusions can be used to make real things happen. Loved the poem!

Optimism is more like it. One has to work toward achieving most positive outcomes in life. Then, we can only hope they come to fruition from any valiant effort applied.

Just hoping and not doing anything about your hope is useless. You are right, we need to put into action to gain whatever we hope to get.

Although I use the "hope" word every so often, I have never been a "hope" kinda of guy. I really got into your poem. Thank you for posting it, it might strike some "hopers" into thinking a whole 'nother way.
