It is in our nature both to crave praise for our action and to think about the most diabolical; actually sometimes carry it out. Disgruntled individuals can find allies on the Internet and can openly find out how to wreck destruction that will be directed to supposed enemies in some misguided way that often is portrayed by vigilante heroes in movies, TV and video games. These killers are free to buy whatever they need to act out their fantasy of righting whatever wrongs they perceive. These homegrown terrorists are a much greater threat to us than foreign invaders.

Vigilante

He's a loner, not a lover,

has very few associates or friends.

So he goes along unnoticed,

free to a life of his own ends.

He's a loser, not a winner,

when it comes to life's rewards.

He's been always left out,

so he starts leaning towards.

Conspiracy theories that he finds of worth,

bolstered by Internet friends around the earth.

Something to latch on to in his lackluster life,

something within him begins to take birth.

How he can change things if he wants,

to make a great statement for all to see.

So he secretly schemes and plans,

for his great statement to come to be.

He will make them pay,

for what they have done.

All his life he's been mistreated,

it is time that he won.

He gathers up ammunition,

to carry out his plan.

His freedom and his right,

take up arms because he can.

He carefully puts his plan into motion.

No one knows he's doing it,

clandestinely in his place.

He doesn't leave a trace.

He openly buys all that he needs.

Shopkeepers are eager to please.

Builds an arsenal on his own,

dreams and schemes with ease.

At the appointed time,

he arrives at the place.

Armed to the teeth,

thinking evil to erase.

He begins killing,

in a methodical way.

No one is innocent,

in his gunsight that day.

Though he wears body armor,

he cares not for his life.

He craves media coverage,

always focused on strife.

For he has made his statement,

and is famous for a day.

He has no remorse or guilt,

finally, getting his own way.

We need more love in the world, and we all need to look out for our neighbors. Let nobody become lonely, I firmly believe that is the answer. An excellent poem, oozing emotion.

Too true. And these demented individuals seek to destroy the weakest of society. They go after women and children. Old people. People who let down their guard to pray. The mentally unstable have been preying on society long before the internet became popular. Whether in the Middle East or Nazi Germany, they find their scapegoats.

Powerful and to the point.

Murderous Rage is on the prowl...seeking whom he may devour.

Good post, Ron.

Praying you are doing well.

Love & hugs,
Rhonda

It's become all too common on a daily basis, the only difference being the sheer number of fatalities.

There are so many misguided children, some are taught at home, and some just being neglected by everyone because they think the kid is quiet. Never would they imagine that most often the quiet ones make the loudest noise.

You have touched upon and explored in some depth a very serious problem that has arisen because of the modern technologies. One can only wonder what the future will bring. Let's hope he doesn't "get his own way." A fine, timely poem.

You speak the truth, Ron, I just cringe when whenever the Democrats protest whatever they protest.

Too true and so sad, Ron. Is it too soon to try the open, extended hand - or do we need to put a couple million of us to the sword first, some of that 'sacred blood' stuff to oil the runaway loco-motive?

There are more nuts being taught from birth sick teachings. The CHILDREN of disgruntled sickos. Your poem speaks volumes!

Love ya!

This was an excellent piece of work, but I'm not sure Vigilante is the right term for these mass murderers. They're just evil people with hate in their hearts.

An articulate array of observations that when taken as a whole, we should be concerned that the symptomatic evil inherent in these lines is gathering energy. I fear more is to come.
