Just thinking about all the things we know are happening and put off because we are either too lazy or fearful about what will happen if we change.

Lion in Wait

There's a lion in wait in so many lives,

like a case of unknown virulent hives.

Just waiting unseen in the tall grass,

to jump out, grab you and kick your ass.

There's the lying in weight of the digital assistant,

procuring fast food and snacks so insistent.

A slowly developing strangling life grip,

becoming diabetes, amputation to the hip.

There's the lying in weight couch potato style,

telling your friends that you work out at the gym.

Missing the mark of your weight by a mile,

hiding your lie on a plus sized binge whim.

There's the lying in wait while you put off your urges,

the smoking, the gambling, drugs or bulimia purges.

Burning the life candle from both ends it seems,

a way of living fast and loose, but ending dreams.

There's the lying in wait for others to do,

when you know you should get out there, too.

The cautious delay or fear of acting,

the apathy that leaves so many people lacking.

So if there's a lion in a wait just outside your door,

think about it and wonder what are you waiting for?

The time to change is now and not later,

before all that lying grips you like an alligator.

THIS IS SO TRUE FROM YOUR POINT OF VIEW, RON. PROCRASTINATION FOR ANY REASON IS NOT GOOD. BUT, I THINK ALSO THAT IT'S GOOD TO KNOW WHEN TO ACT...AND GOOD TO KNOW WHEN NOT TO. SOMETIMES PEOPLE ARE PUT IN A POSITION THAT ALL THEY CAN DO IS...WAIT ON GOD. GREAT WORK, THANKS. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

There is much sad truth expressed through your verses, Ron. Love and peace to you,

Superb word play about such serious subject matter.

I asked fo an alligator sandwich and told them to make it snappy.

I battle with putting off tomorrow things that I can do today! If we address some of the issued mentioned in your poem. We probably live longer. Thanks for this poem.

Change and time always seem to go hand in hand. A lion at my door might be a good motivator to get moving on something's that need to change!!! Good poem

That lion is always within us that sits at the door of our hearts. Whenever we decide for it to do the deeds we want it to do we may hear it roar.

For many, aging inhibits the desire to change. The process is often fraught with obstacles, naysayers, challenges, and fears. There's something addictive though about the unknown, even marvelous. It always seems a bit impossible until you step out and actually press forward. Fail or succeed; the journey is always worth it. r

OUCH! Painful reality bites here and I'm guilty as judged. Well done!

Lots of good advice in this write. As I was reading this, I couldn't help but remember an old Calvin and Hobbes comic strip where Calvin says, "It takes all day to do all the nothing you want." Another quote I like says, "Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow."

Some pretty good and sound advice in this poem to get one thinking, especially about lying. It seems that we are on the same wave length as I posted a poem recently about lying as well. Seems its on people's mind. I wonder why.

Since I can't stand liars this poem got my blood up, Ron! Lie to me once, your mistake. Lit to me twice, my mistake. Great poem though and the way you projected different liars "in wait"! Rock on, poet!

Hugs,

Jane
