A play on a word that has meaning in an aging society.

Cracks

Cracks in the foundation,

cracks in the walls and floor.

Cracks around the windows,

that creep in under the door.

Letting wind and dust enter,

while the vermin sneak in,

snakes, spiders, rats and roaches,

along with the occasional sin.

For no mind is totally free.

Wise cracks by comedians galore.

Perhaps there is wisdom there,

but age cracks appear more.

None free from mental cracks,

the kind that easily attacks,

rendering some to be slacks,

while others simply seek quacks.

Cracks in society,

cracks of all kinds.

Don't do anything about them,

just let them blow our minds.

The core of our being,

all cracked and falling apart.

Where do we begin?

Where do we start?

Oh, I REALLY like this one! It is artistic, witty (“along with the occasional sin.”) abstract, lyrical…could be words to a song…”Don’t do anything about them, just let them blow our minds.”. My favorite is the finishing stanza. A riddle, a puzzle, a confession of confusion. Novel topic, wisely handled, Ron. ~~ djl

I would love to write that this poem is a real cracker...but it's too serious a poem to do that.
"Cracks in the foundation.' That being the first line of your poem, was too real a subject NOW to make light of it. Our footsteps leave cracks on this fragile world, cracks that I doubt I can repair, but I will take a crack at fixing mine.Your poem is the mirror of 2024,there are cracks in the mirror, your poem exposes them.💖

How did you get that picture of my skin?
Seriously, this one says so much and I am so cracked.

An interesting topic that I don't think I have ever written about. Very interesting and you have touch many, most of the basses regarding cracks in our lives. One final crack, the one that lets the light in.

As your poem succinctly addresses, cracks and deterioration are natural processes that both our biological heritage and our relationship with Nature's heat from the sun deal with daily.

I known quite a few people with such problems today, from lack of consciousness with their skin, either abusing it with the sun or lacking attention to their heritage; they ignore those in the family tree that came before them as having an innate problem with their dry skin.

It's also interesting that you brought attention to Nature's many versions of surface presentation. I'm reminded of the beauty the cracks project from elephants and ancient trees. This is a great subject you made more present in the lives of your readers. Kudos.
