Dedicated to GEORG MATEOS

Poem Artwork

On a dry branch, which broke off the tree

Lonely wanderer sat and with drowsy gaze

He was staring at brook’s bubbling waters.

The old branch, a discard from the past,

Was so swept by a sudden compassion

That if it had a tongue and could speak

Would have chased off the wanderer’s anguish.

Long ago, in its distant past,

When the branch was awash with the bloom

Many lovers would often seek shelter

In the coolness of lush foliage.

And the wanderer’s eloquent verse,

Where sorrow yielded to passion

It would hear on many a night.

But the wanderer knew not of this

And continued to gaze at the water.

Brook’s clear water, the vagrant of Earth,

Which had quenched its inhabitants’ thirst,

Recognized the great poet in wanderer’s garb,

Who transformed mere droplet, a sibling,

Into shining star on God’s dark skies

By the force of his brilliant talent.

Brook’s clear water, the vagrant of Earth,

Which was never held captive by earthlings

And which proudly carried its greatness

Through the centuries both blessed and cursed,

Laid prostrate at the feet of the poet

As submissive and humble subject

At the feet of a mighty sovereign.

And it playfully tossed him a droplet,

That the wanderer once glorified,

But it failed to attract his attention.

‘Cause the poet was wondering why

All the bird in the trees sung so merrily,

And disturbed the sanctity of silence

Which was filled with so much of his grief

For the one who his heart had belonged to.

But the birds were aware of the instant

Fleeting second that’s known as Life

And they were in a rush to pour

Their immortal souls to the poet

Through their magnificent songs

As they longed to remain in his verse.

The mighty wind gusted to the scene,

Capable of uprooting trees

It only brushed away the dead leaves

So their rustle wouldn’t disturb

The poet’s train of thought.

It ought to have brushed away wanderer’s grief…

But mighty wind knew that under fair sky

Where we are but passers-by

The anguish of the soul is the price for poetry

Eternally dwelling in the Universe.

The mighty wind knew that time will come

When the old tree branch, which shared poet’s grief

Will become sacrosanct destination

Of many a pilgrim who’d kiss the ground

Upon which the wanderer rested,

Dreaming of the one who poet’s lonely heart

Refused to cast into oblivion.

LIANA...ALL OF THE POETS HERE AT AD THAT ARE BLESSED TO BE FAMILIAR WITH GEORG'S WORK, KNOW AND FEEL, AT LEAST, THE 'SURFACE' OF HIS TEMPERMENT AND FEELINGS... HIS EMOTIONS...THAT HIS PAST EXPERIENCES HAS FORMED...YES, WE HAVE BEEN TOUCHED THROUGH HIS ARTISTRY(WORDS, SCULPTURING AND PAINTINGS) AND YET...HE STILL REMAINS A MYSTERY TO US...ELUSIVE...BUT AT THE SAME TIME...SO TANGIBLE AND A VERY STRONG, APPRECIATED INFLUENCE TO US ALL. BUT YOUR 'PAINTING' OF HIM HAS REVEALED HIM TO US WITH SUCH DETAIL THAT I DO BELIVE...THIS TO BE ONE EXCELLENT 'PORTRAIT' OF A MAN WHO IS CERTAINLY...NOT AT ALL 'EASY' TO CAPTURE ON A POET'S CANVASS. AN OUTSTANDING WORK THAT IS SO WELL DONE AND APPRECIATED. GOD BLESS YOU AND THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

To be honored by such a fine poetess with such a lovely saga that captures mind, heart and soul is truly to be treasured as a highlight of any poet's career. To be considered a peer and a friend is also quite priceless. This work is fitting to a great man and a good friend.

Indeed an excellent tribute to an excellent man!

I see a few similarities in this poem to my poem I Came To A Wood. The wanderer in this poem find himself by the waters of The River That Flows, and when a drop sprays up to him, the wanderer fails to notice because he is thinking about the love of his life that he has lost.

This is a very well thought out poem with very vivid images for the reader to see what is really going on. The tree branch having a deeper meaning than the rest. A 10+++++ and thank you for sharing.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love and who love you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your den sister, Barbie.

Dear Liana, spasiva.

I don't know why I should deserve that honor from a fellow author, but yes, I am an old gnarled oak which will no bend nor broke.
Your poem starts like the tranquil Volga hearing the bells of Moskow Saint Basil's, disturbing those birds whose ancestors saw Tolstoy, Bulganov and Dostoevsky.
That a Beloved Russian Poet thought that I deserved to be the object of one of her works humble my, honor my and make my heart skip a beat.
