Sometimes God sends an unwelcome visitor to wake up His people.
This poem is loosely based on a true story.
I AM is the Name by which God identified Himself to His servant Moses.

The I AM Man

Why the old man wandered in two hours early
was a mystery to the proficient cooks
readying the charity meal in the old church hall.

Serving the weekly supper always started at five.
The old man had no reason to arrive so early,
but there he sat in the old church hall.

Chatting as they enjoyed their sandwiches
was their weekly ritual, while they diligently
prepared the evening's dishes in the old church hall.

The man was annoying!  Where did he get the nerve
to show up early... watch wistfully?
He had no business being in the old church hall!

One long-time member shook her head in frustration;
Could he not read the sign...how precise could it be?

~ SERVED AT FIVE ~
~ IN THE OLD CHURCH HALL

With a haughty sigh at his crudeness, she grumbled of
his rudeness, then reluctantly, her grudging hands
held out a sandwich in the old church hall.

"No thank you, Miss.  I'm not hungry now."
His sad eyes captured hers and drew them into his own.
She saw no condemnation...only loneliness.

Then...for one split-second...
she heard
the still, small voice of Jesus in the old church hall:

"I tell you the truth, whatever you did
for one of the least of these brothers of mine,
you did for Me."

Shaken, the woman sat by the shabby man.
"Are you okay?"          "Yes, indeed," he replied,
as a broad smile lit up his weathered face.
"Yes.
I Am."

Oh Connie...this one sent goose bumbps through my body. It might just have been the great I AM who sat in the old Church Hall! It's interesting how the Holy Spirit opens our spiritual eyes and ears. A truly brilliant and powerful write, my friend. Thank you!

Abundant Blessings,
Hugs,
Lena

"The I AM Man" This is quite doctrine,Connie. It's so nice that so many of us are doing just what the Lord wants us to do. Publishing His words in whatever form we can; even, just as you've done here. "God gave the word blessed is he/she that published it." Keep on doing the good works, Connie. May you be blessed!!!

A good reminder to stop being caught up in our busy-ness to really minister to our neighbor in need.

Well written Connie. Let us never turn our backs on a stranger, for it might just be our Lord. May God bless you every day of your life.

AMEN...! SEE... THIS IS WHAT I MEAN ABOUT TRUE CHRISTIAN FOLKS...THEY MAY DO WRONG BUT THEY CAN 'HEAR' THE VOICE OF JESUS WHEN HE CORRECTS THEM. IT IS NOT 'BUSINESS AS USUAL' WITH TRUE CHRISTIANS...THEY REPENT AND DO BETTER. THAT'S WHAT BEING A CHRISTIAN IS ALL ABOUT...FALLING BUT GETTING BACK UP. I LOVED THIS WORK AND IT IS A KEEPER FOR SURE! THANKS FOR SHARING AND GOD BLESS, LOVE, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
