Poem Artwork

He strums the strings on his red guitar
with eyes closed somewhat, I know he’s far
Into his world, of music and song
along in this life, my man sings on. . .

His voice is strong, his soul joins in
Across the street, he starts bringing the crowds in
Eyes all on, this singers’ stage, now, he’s drawing himself out of his inner rage. . .
and screams!

The people hush, the strings stand still
The walls never heard such a deafening shrill!
Then, one by one, he picked a few strums
as he softly spoke of the life he hummed

Things about women, and bar room brawls
aloof and carousing, under alcohol
Slowly I noticed, a tear he shed
when he started singing of his little brother who’s dead

"He died too young, so I got drunk
hoping to overcome, how my heart was sunk"
He kept on saying, how life wasn’t fair
when he continued on and on, about a marriage that failed

Another tear fell, on top of the other one
when he sang of his child, his autistic son. . .
Right about then, he started screaming in voice
yelling to his God, about, him having no choice!

But then, all got silent. . . again, he stilled
as he voiced another seven years, that he spent in Hell
I saw a smile come upon his face, when then he started singing of this special place
"It was right here...", I heard him sing... "the day I met my soul mate, my loving everything..."

"Life can be tough, but we make it rough
when choosing to walk along, with the devil himself"
The crowd stood up, their applause was long
They knew he had to say what was in his song...

My man is a singer, Yes, his life’s been hard
so, he lives through the strings of his red guitar
With a voice he’s been given... and now, only in knowing
He can spread His word far, his life lessons sung, glowing!

I have only been down there a few times but I am quite sure I have heard Paul singing - delightful story of how music can heal the heart. Thanks! It sounds like a place I have been to many times with my own guitar.
