He came to bed so cold...

Poem Artwork

He slipped into bed
I panicked, and said
You'll be late for work
He nodded with a jerk
I already tried to go
But I got into an accident
Oh no!
His body was so cold
My heart wanted to explode
I felt so confused
I was awake but still on snooze
Is this real or a nightmare
I can't understand it
It's not fair
He just bought a new car
And four deer from afar
Caused him to swerve out
And I imagine scream and shout
When the car turned and fell
Into a ditch sideways it did dwell
With his seatbelt on he sat
Like an amusement ride
What about that
Trapped inside his own car
His cellphone slid too far
But he managed to get to it
And call our sons
Who raced to him in a fit
The EMTs and the State Police
Came onto the scene
To help him at least
Then he crawled into bed next to thee
Where we snuggled, he and me

Love how you capture the raw essence of what's in your heart...that can't have been easy to cope with but I hope all is now well. My best, Panda :)

Oh my God, Lynn, how frightening! I'm so sorry to hear about the accident. You wrote about it very well, although I'm sure you were shaking while you typed it!
Love and God Bless you both,
CJ
