                Let Freedom Ring.......

Halls of the Pennsylvania Assembly remain quiet,
not even the whistling of the wind comes through.
Buckle shoes, boots, men pacing on wooden floors,
thunderous roar of horses stampeding by ensue.

Let freedom ring......

Wagon and coach travel is a challenging ordeal,
caused by muddy soil from the late evening rain.
Common Sense begot favor, changed many minds,
written through heart and soul of Thomas Paine.

Let freedom ring......

Caesar Rodney rode hard through the night,
doing his part, placed a vote, changing history.
A solid, unforgiving vote for pure independence,
Delaware to Pennsylvania, a role in the larger story.

Let freedom ring......

Constant chatter as each took to the floor,
speaking truth, justice and the new American way.
Listen closely, you will hear the imprinted sounds,
of men discussing vital issues that were of the day.

Let freedom ring......

We are a British colony, we can stand on our own,
enough idle talk, we have farms that need tending.
Horses need shoes, cows need milking,
another child born, tattered clothes need mending.

Let freedom ring......

Divine providence still lingers, as if sanctified,
on hallowed ground, with uncertainty, yet a resolve.
Quill pens remain dried, silent, neatly on a desk,
old inkwells present, ink streaks now dissolved.

Let freedom ring......

Aged dust has settled that once fluttered about,
through glassless windows, dancing in light trails.
The souls of the past continue visiting the future,
to see if what they began was in truth or in tales.

Let freedom ring......

Allegiance to God for blessing such sacred ground,
with each new generation to continue this cause.
Let freedom ring loud from coast to coast;
from mountains to oceans each day take pause.

Let freedom ring......

Deep within your heart and soul, the truth lives on,
allow the light of God to brightly shine.
Stand steadfast; always hold your ground,
never to look back, never to opine.

Let freedom ring......

As the world changes and rearranges,
through countless floods and devastating fires.
As you pack and head for the safer high ground,
see beyond the ashes for what now transpires.

                   Happy July 4th!

Hi Karen! I was thrilled to read your inspiring poem LET FREEDOM RING. A sense of majesty comes through your words, and all that is noble and good, and Lord knows, we need this today in America. May God mightily use your voice, to rally us again to be what we were destined to be.
Enjoyed this one immensely!

Karen my frequent walks in the area of Dover, Delaware's "Green" take me by the place of Caesar Rodney's re-interment, Christ Episcopal Church on south State street. The ghosts of America's patriots are in constant vigil in that small village city in County Kent. The friends of liberty and freedom birthed a nation there. Yours is the dedication of a modern day American patriot. I bid you love and peace my dear friend. Jon Michael
