Poem Artwork

Around about midnight I feel the tug
Of how it used to be when I was partying
It happens often when I'm yearning for
a certain someone I jived with

He played jazz piano like Oscar Peterson
And made love like no one else I ever knew
An enigma, a loner, devoted to his craft
But when he gave himself he gave all

Always attracting  women to the bar
All wanted a piece of him, but never got it
Only one woman he ever truly loved, not me
She did him dirty and he never bit again

I was his good friend, then one night
We wound up at his place together
The start of a long lasting love affair
Most people didn't know about it

We kept our lives private for many reasons
I really don't know if it was love on his part
We never discussed it, though I felt love
He was a good looking intelligent man of solitude

My being able to refrain from demands
Kept us together for many years until
One day he was killed by a drug hungry thief
I still  think of him often, mostly round midnight

Eileen

Very often those whom we love most and take for granted, are suddenly snatched away from us..

This poignant piece cuts to the quick !

A sad story indeed Eileen, on many levels. I too find myself more prone to reminiscing at certain times of the day. It's weird. Beautiful sound bite.

Unconditioned love is a dream that will come up forever with the warmth, the smile and just the whispered nuances of personal directions that are forever waiting . I know this feeling too. I had to bury it myself. It still has a hankering to pop up now and then but I put the age to the memory and....it isn't the same dream any longer.
Great write Sis.

Susan

A well written piece with excellent flow and wonderful wordage. It allows us to 'see' the story as it unfolds...

I understand his once bitten twice shy..
Even though the memories maybe sad, He was brought into your life for a reason... Most atmospheric imagery..

I started hearling some old patsy Cline here...notto take away from the jazz concept, just that soulful female thought that hit before the music loaded. Must be a time for remembering love and it's loss. This one was tragic, ET...but was there also tragedy in having to hide it...and a certain relief that it comes to the surface now? Love is something to sing about and this man found it in his music, even if he couldn't sing your relationship out loud. You sing of it in this poetic memory. But all that really mattered was what there was between the two of you...and it mattered.
Love,
Taylor~

Midnight thoughts can often be so vivid, Tiger Lily.

And it seems nostalgia is the current theme in many poems today.

I am so sorry for your loss. It takes a lot of courage and self-sacrifice not to demand anything out of someone. He was lucky to have you in his life and your words tell of your own good fortune to have known him. Best wishes.

A well thought pen of both passion, and longing. Midnight does bring many thoughts to the mind.

Attraction reveals the world to us Around Midnight. Body and soul crave it. It triggers in our brain, often with life-changing stunners. Jazz piano casts an aura of mystery, a rainbow, a sunset, a jazz musician and a flicker of a candle flooding the room with romance...you create a mood Around Midnight with startling intensity, Eileen...
