The smell of Gardenia's permeate
her senses and she has no defenses
against the dreams of him holding
her as they converse in whispers
in-between the nibbles and kisses
working themselves into a state
of such arousal many times they
can't wait to go into the bedroom
so they make love in the garden
on a bed of sumptuous soft grass
she becomes moist with memories
until through softly falling tears
his visage fades into the eons
of yesterday's where she spends
all her days alone, while he travels
the unknown having chosen a solo path
she can't follow so she's left to wallow
in loneliness which is excrutiating
when the Gardenia's bloom and her
beautiful garden turns to gloom
where these memories derail the joy
she used to feel leaving her insides
to bleed with her need for him
The poem almost describes a garden long long ago in Japan, and I wonder if she felt her heart bleeding with her need for him...

Mmmmmmmmmmm. Despite the sadness and pain -- and maybe, in a way, because of them -- this sounds and feels so goooood. I love gardenias and you make us see their delicate, glowing, white petals and smell their heavenly scent. T h a n k . y o u !! xxOxx 'Pea' xxOxx
An attachment to fond memories the hardest to leave aren't they, your japanese garden encapsulates that thought,a beautiful wreath of gardenias let flow on the pond, and place a burning lotus candle within. Your pain and yearning, expressed succinctly in tears and words of longed for love. Hugs! Eileen
I concur with Richard below entirely Eileen
A beautiful, soft and bittersweet reminisce of a lost love for whatever reason. However no love is ever lost completely, for we always retain a special love within us for that former influence on our life.
I love the exquisite white gardenia too, with its overpowering heady scent.
Kudos to you

My dear Eileen,
In your Garden of Love, you've given us a romantic prelude but sad view of the heartache of a lost love. Sometimes it's from abandonment and other times it's from "duty calls," such as a military tour in Iraq. But whatever the reason, the heartache and pain of loneliness is often unbearable.
As one who shares a steadfast love for a lifetime with the same woman and one who, also, loves the aromatic and visual splendor of blooming gardens, this poem deeply stirs my emotions.

Gene and Christine say it well, a sad tale beautifully told, exquisite as it sad.

like the sins of those gone on before me
and I weep for my wrongs,
and I cry for those left . . .
This poem slapped my upside my head . . . Hard . . .

Sublime: favorite lines:
" ... as they converse in whispers
in between the nibbles and kisses ...." how soon it ends. Powerfully, poignantly penned, well done.
