there was a little lady
that had a little gout
in her right hand fingers
that caused her to pout
but guess what she found out

when she broke the middle finger
opening a window that was stuck
the gout  showed in the xrays
it had eaten her knuckle bone away
her banging , broke it the rest of way

Now  surgery is needed, what a bore
can hardly write her poetry anymore
too much of a bother with the pain
sits watching tv until she snores
but  something.s rattling in her brain

she's seeing goutbugs eating her bones
so far the doc hasn't said what to do
she has to see another hand specialist
so she's making up her own lengthy list
why was she never told of bone eaters
she's been taking gout medicine for years
now she'll hold in check her fears
hope the gout bugs haven't got ears
ask her poet friends for a few prayers

Thanks;-)etw

Great job of poking fun at the problem. I have flares occasionally in my big toes and their knuckle joints. I feel your pain literally. This happens usually after I have over-indulged in all those evil purine foods like mushrooms, and asparagus, and pepperoni and tuna, and beer, and beer, and hot dogs, you know the good stuff. I usually get a warning and start drinking boatloads of water and take colchicine which stops the flare dead in it's tracks. At least for as long as I behave myself. I didn't realize that bone degeneration was an effect. Good luck with your bone repair. Patrick

Now the gout... Will it never end? I do hope that you get those bugs arrested. In the meantime, think of Dragon Naturally Speaking. If you are patient with it, and train your errors, you can speak your poems and run your computer with it like I do.

I write whole emails, address them, and send them without touching the keyboard.

Give your fingers a rest.

Eileen,
It would be horrible to have a gift and not be able to use it. Sorry for this situation. Love and Hugs,

Delightful. You have taken what was once called "rich man's disease" and made it into a cartoon. Your humor is astounding. Bravo!

I have known people to have it and it's painful, I I heard the crystal buildup is what causes pain in the joints but I've never heard of it quite like this. Best wishes for you and lot's of prayer. LadyJ

oh my goodness... whatever next? Eileen, you seem to have such a bucketful... I'm so sorry, but at least you have gotten to find out about the "greedy gout" before it is allowed to go any further. Hopefully the surgery will rout it good and proper. Better out than in, like other forms of malignancy. I will most certainly pray and ask for a bionic replacement - Kimmy has the right idea, though! No excuses for fallow files! :)) xx

Damn! Seems to me that they would have casually, you know, mentioned the fact that it was possible for bone varmints to gnaw away at your bones until you are nubbed down to a big puddle on the floor. Seriously, sometimes I think the health care isn't waiting for Obamacare to start getting inept.

Oh gosh Eileen.
The imagery affected me as much
as the invasion of flying termites
down here.
we are fragile aren't we?
They told me I have "mouse finger"
on my right hand. Locks up, hurts,
"stay off the computer," the doctor said.
"But I'm a writer doc!" I says.
"Do something else," he says.
Sheesh!
Prayers start today chum!
Blessings ...
