I do remember the best days of my life. I look around at all I have today, the best and most modern of all. I listen to so many complain about doing the laundry, cleaning their floors and doing the dishes and I think, they could'nt have lived back in those days, if so, they would be ashamed of complaining. But I do remember my Pop rocking me as we listened to their only means of entertainment, the radio or on a Sunday they would get the music going and tear down the house with sounds from the old washboards, spoons and the bottle caps nailed to a stick. Now those were the best days of my life.

The Best Times in my Life
June 22, 2010
By Rose Marie Rideout

Ah I remember it well,
Although I may have been two or three,
It was here in the front room,
Poppa rocked me gently on his knee.

I can still hear the old tunes,
Nanna sang so loud and clear,
As I watched so tentivly,
While my momma played the organ there.

Daddy would get the accordian going,
Such a fine tune to add,
That’s what they called real entertainment,
Just the thoughts now make me sad.

I could still smell supper cooking,
It must have been stew on the old wood stove,
With homemade buns, it sure made our mouths water,
On our long trip to visit over that dirt road.

Poppa must have been smokin on the porch,
The smell would linger in the air,
Back then smokin was accepted,
Back then they had no fear.

You knew Nanna had baked cookies,
For cinnamon and fruit devine,
No shortage on homemade desserts,
Back in the vintage time.

Ah I do remember it well,
Even though I may have been two or three,
The best times in my life, I remember were here,
When Poppa rocked me gently on his knee.

Nice memories Rose. Entertainment was entertainment and not an industry. Songs were sung from the heart and not a product to make money. Music was something you did, not something you listened to with a critical ear.

Peace,
Dayvid

I doubt that too many of us could remember what life was like before the remote control for the tv was invented. We spent more time listening to the radio then watching tv...it was a different time.

Cheers,
Dan

You take us back wonderfully, Rose, to days of simpler, less demanding times when we were more real, more in touch with what mattered.
Yes!

Dear Rose I remember, there were times when, even a radio we didn't have. But I had cousins who played the luth and my aunt played the drum, and all the neighbors enjoyed together on warm summer evenings and shared goodies and other foods. Great memory and a great poem. Love emile

So well and so beautifully, nostalgically stated. You must have lived way in the country because, and I was born in 1934, the oldest thing that I can remember was my parents "ice box." Yeah, that thing that an "ice man" had to schlep a fifty pound block of ice up three stories to put into our "ice box." The radio and Saturday afternoon double features with Gene or Roy were the entertainment I remember. Oh, yeah, my mom was a very good cook also.
Your friend, Mark

Amen, Rose!!! I agree with every single word....those were the good old days and it's kind of sad the next generations won't know how good life truly was one time. Loved it!

Hugs,
Anna
