The house is empty now,
Devoid of laughter
And of warmth,
The furnishings covered
With sterile dust covers,
The clock on the mantle
Silenced in mid-hour.
When I leave
All life will leave with me
And all that will remain
Will be memories,
Memories of you and me
And this long summer season,
A season of days spent
In youthful abandon,
And nights spent
In one another's arms.
We came together
As strangers
Then parted as lovers
When time for you ran out.
For a time I raged
Against man, against God,
But then I felt you touch me
One last time,
A soothing, loving caress
Upon my soul
And I knew
You were not gone,
That you would be with me
Forever.
BEAUTIFULLY penned, Rebecca, covering a wide spectrum of emotions. Kind of like grief: shock, denial, anger, sadness and finally, acceptance. Well done!
