We are all butterflies,
The speaker told us,
But at what stage of growth
Do we find ourselves?
Are we still an egg,
Pregnant with promise,
Or have we completed
Our tranformation
Into living jewels,
Beacons of beauty
Who illuminate the world
With their grace and wisdom?
I believe
That I am still a caterpillar,
Eating her way through life,
Not yet ready for the chrysalis,
But growing weary of the state
That I've long outgrown.
Soon I will have little choice
But to morph
Or to die,
For caterpillars cannot endure
Forever.
Which will I choose?
No doubt I will choose life,
But, O!
The faith it will require
To wrap myself
In my cocoon
And trust magnificent wings will form
Where once there were none.
