It's a lazy summer morning
As I lay on my side
With my arms wrapped
Around the down pillows
I splurged on
For my birthday,
And as I watch the rain
Beat against
The bedroom windows,
The drops captured
By the screen
And held captive
Against the glass,
Lightening flashes faintly
And thunder rolls languidly
Somewhere in the distance,
Proving there is nothing to fear
In this particular storm.
At some point
I really must rise
And begin my day,
But not yet.
I want to bask
In nature's enchantment
As she plays her melody
Upon my skylights,
Bringing back childhood memories
Of other summer rainstorms
That played their symphonies
Upon tin roofs,
Of apple cobbler baking
And my grandparents
Now long gone.
It would be so easy
To slip into melancholy,
But I don't.
Instead,
I simply allow the rain
To pour down
Over my soul
And wash it clean.
This is one of my favorite things in the world to do- it's why I love rain (not storms, lol), as the beat of its soothing music can calm the soul. Thanks for this, it took me away.
