I ended this poem with an old word, "Selah," which means to reflect upon what has been written.

Poem Artwork

I've often wondered
How I came to be
So different
From the rest
Of my family.
In terms of philosophy,
We could not have differed
Any more
Had I created our characters
For one of my stories,
And being the oldest,
The only girl,
Was often the hardest part
Of growing up,
For how could I compete?
No,
In the words of a song
It's not easy being green,
And its taken me a lifetime
To make peace
Within myself,
To accept that
I am who,
And what,
I am,
To know that
I am
No less
A child of God
For all my difference,
And therefore beloved
In my own right!
So,
With a nod of thanks
To all those
Who have nurtured me
On this journey,
I finally face the future,
Embracing my individuality
With a glad
And hopeful heart,
Determined
To make my mark
In my own unique
And indomitable
Ways.
Selah!

The eldest is expected to do the most and usually does. My twin brother and I are both the eldest, but, because I am dominant, much has been expected from me. Philosophically I am diametrically opposite my siblings on many things. However, we have always been and remain, friends.

Rebecca, This poem spoke to me on a very personal level. I was adopted and very different from the other members of my family physically, mentally and emotionally. The loved me and I loved them and there was never a doubt of that, but I never fit in, always felt the difference, and interpreted it as "I am wrong" for so many years. Whatever the reason your feeling so different came from, I certainly understand the sense of being seperate, maybe in extra need of assurance, and I applaud your being able to embrace who you are so fully! I still struggle with it, but mostly, I also embrace the me. Congratulations on a well articulated topic of personal growth. Be well, Kathy

I champion you in this, the making of your mark, Rebeca. Good luck always. I had to look up Selah, and still not sure what it means, seems to be a bit of confusion about the word. Message me if you will and give me your thoughts on it since you used it.

Transcendental Sojourn-Arrival to One Journal by Liz Cosline

Explains the realizations that have given the author the views of living life fully. The life each person dreams about. You must take a look at yourself before dreams can be reached. Deciding what is the core of belief.
