With faltering steps

I venture forward

Into a future fraught

With both promise

And uncertainty.

I leave behind

My past in near ruins:

The broken relationships,

The financial mismanagement,

All the poor and questionable choices

That have been characteristic

Of my condition;

I struggle to leave behind

The self-defeating expectations

Of failure

And disappointment,

And I choose instead

To visualize

A new reality

Brimming with success.

It’s not being easy,

Profound change rarely is,

But with the right mindset

And the right support system,

I believe I can finally

Turn my life around.
