Poem Artwork

Sitting here, alone,

Trying to understand

What purpose

My life has served.

I am not ready

To give it up, no

Not just yet,

But for my future

To have meaning

I must first

Come to terms

With my past,

Then rethink

My present

And what baggage

I must shed

To make real change

Possible.

I must begin

By answering

Two questions:

What do I want?

And

What must I do

To achieve it?

I have lived

The first half

Of my life

In survival mode,

Going from crisis

To crisis, and

Always anticipating

More trouble

Appearing

On my horizon;

But now

I want to live

The second half

In a state of

Simple grace,

Anticipating instead

The joys to come.

In a word

I want

To thrive!

 Reviews of "Rethinking"
Reviewed by RWE SAYS BYE (Reader)
Reviewed on August 24, 2013
The past is always offering up some contract... often on its own terms. To take stock, one must build upon successes, acknowledge that some aspects of ambition are loosely or firmly based upon some features of the past that might better be modified now and in the future where to be fully enjoyed, all accomplishments and attainments need be established from a thriving position.

I like how you move from rethinking through survival to that famous final word, emphasized in italics! You thrive, girl!!
