A troublesome night
To say the least
When my worst fears
Are at last realized.
I should have listened
To the whispered shouts
Of my anxious gut,
I should have known
How precarious
My position was,
Instead I allowed myself
To be suckered into
A false sense
Of security.
Now, soon,
I will be homeless
And I'll be forced
To give up
My two most important friends,
My beloved dogs,
Copper and Sunny.
How will I bear
To say good-bye
To them who have
For so long been
My sole purpose
For living?
How can I abandon them
Who have given me
The only unconditional love
I have ever known?
How will I ever be able
To live with myself
Again?
Homelessness is a terrible thing to face. I once had a student friend who broke up with his common-law wife and had to find a place for his little puppy, Jazz. I took jazz in.
If you do really have to give up your pets, make sure that you find a good safe place for them before you break free. It's the least you can do for them. Aside from taking them with you.
