Poem Artwork

There's an emptiness
That has threatened to
Consume me.
When,
As I am wont to do,
I try to find it
Somewhere within
Myself
I am left frustrated,
For I can't find
It's source.
I spent hours,
Days,
Months,
Years,
Chasing it around
Inside my head,
Growing ever more
Frustrated
As the eternities passed.
Then, suddenly,
One moonlit night
As I lay upon my bed,
My mind is quiet,
My body is still,
And slowly,
So slowly,
Like a shy fawn
In a glade,
I feel a presence
Beside me
Where there is
No one.
So I shut my eyes
And there
I find what
I've spent a lifetime
Pursuing;
The emptiness within
Is actually
An emptiness without;
It isn't something wrong
Inside my head,
But rather,
Its roots lie
Somewhere
Much more profound;
For you see,
It is simply
The absence
Of someone beside me.
It is the absence
Of love.

The absence of love is also a presence although it is not very inviting, leading to a feeling of emptiness that you speak of in the poem. My advice: seek love within, not without. Little children have a lot of love naturally inside them and they express it all the time thru their childish affections. Small wonder that they attract love.

Beautifully expressed in a somber poetic cry. Sometimes love is absent to the most loving people on earth and I truly don't know why. Perhaps is to build up a desire and light that inner fire to burn with a flame of desire for the right one at just the right time. Amen
