With the trivialities and irritations
Of day to day life,
When my focus remains
Upon the countless fires to put out,
I get so caught up
In the busyness of the demands
Upon me, my time, and my resources,
That I forget to stop,
I forget to look and to listen,
To take in Life in its entirety,
To recognize not just the challenges,
But also the blessings
That quietly, or
Maybe not so quietly,
Lighten my journey
And bring joys large and small
To each day.
Sometimes I remember
To say grace as I
Go along,
Though, admittedly,
Not as often as I should,
So each November
I take a day
To recall each blessing
In whatever form it may have taken,
I recall the person or the event or the gift,
And I consider how many more
I have probably forgotten,
As I lift my face to the heavens
And, with a loving and grateful heart
Give thanks.
