Lost Souls
All children should be born
Into light
And kept safely there
To grow, and
To thrive.
No child should be born
Into light
Then led into darkness,
To be forgotten
By those who carry
The torches
That could have
Saved them.
That is how little souls
Grow up lost,
Angry, and
Hurting,
That is how we lose
Potential greatness:
The next scientists
Determined to cure disease,
The next astronauts
Venturing into space,
The next spiritual leaders
Speaking out for peace,
Or the next actors, singers, artists,
Or teachers,
Who would move us
And put us in touch
With the best parts
Of ourselves.
Little souls are like
Sunflowers
Innocently following the light
Before them
Unable to distinguish between
A luminescent sun forever burning
And an incandescent bulb
With a weak filament.

Beautifully written with that sunny approach like the sunflower. So many bad seeds developed by flawed parenting these days. Either children ignored totally, abused or even guarded too tightly where they have no chance to develop into they really are.
