Silent Museums And Glass Eyes

his soul was like a museum
where extinct dead things
with glass eyes
peer at the world unseeing

his silence was like a tomb
interred beneath soil of fear
and layers of pain
weighed down with life’s dirt

buried with a spoon called “hope”
and expected to dig his way out
exhausted with the effort
there are worse things than death

there’re worse things than silence
than nothingness and inertia
when hope is lost
and you can’t dig another spoonful

and the crowd casually passes through
your silent museum with idle talk
and careless laughter
never looking into your glass eyes
