I've watched the series with great interest from the very beginning. While appearing to be very historically correct in the way that the Vikings lived and fought their battles, I thought it was merely fiction, until I read your statement above and checked Wikipedia.
While men of that name lived at that time, what I found out was there seems to be a difficulty linking him with one of his sons. That does not diminish the drama that is unfolding in the series, with Ragnor having great ambitions and constantly being undermined by others vying for his fame and fortune. Really good stuff to watch.
I was quite surprised to see Vikings attacking Paris, but my brief search found that they actually did in the 9th century. History is wonderful for what it reveals.
You have captured the essence of man very well. Being his descendent, you carry some of that with you.
