Thankyou, Karla, for this highly respectful, enlightened and contrapuntal write which polishes the gem of understanding beautifully. As always, you write with knowledge, empathy and with great graciousness. It is humbling to be needfully reminded of the "higher" ways that shape the existance of those who live "closer to Mother Earth" than we do. Our "modernity" and "wisdom" amount to very little when compared with the deeper knowledge of less technologically-orientated cultures and it saddens me how disrespectful we can be in the "first" world, thinking that "greatness" equates with monetary worth. I do hope no-one has construed a demeaning of people's values from my Iluliaq write, whose subject is supposed to be the nature of an iceberg!! If any offence has been caused, however unintentioned, I most sincerely apologise - no sweat!! I love the beautiful starkness and clarity of your lines - like the freshness of Icelandic air itself! Karla you have such diverse knowledge, wonderful poem!
It really is a lesson of biblical similarity of how we
store up so much that we don't need. Other cultures
have learned well to be satisfired with less and
respect the land and environment...we are too spoiled!

It really is all a matter of perspective, isn't it? We have so much, but living as we do, we have more needs. Those who know how to live off of the land will be the ultimate survivors. Excellent write, Karla.
