There are easier things to do than writing poetry.
Like discovering the cure for cancer or AIDS.
Or being the sole winner of the Lottery.
Instead I am writing another poem in the shade.

There are easier things to do than writing poetry.
Like having surgery with no anesthetic.
Stopping the war would be simpler, believe you me.
O, how I wish that poetry talent was genetic.

There are easier things to do than writing poetry.
Like fighting El Torro in a Spanish bull ring (OLE!).
Or becoming a star on the Grand Ole Opry.
Don't make me write another poem, I'll do anything!

There are easier things to do than writing poetry.
If I think of what they are, I will let you know.
I've got to go...my insane Muse is calling me.
She is demanding I release the words and let them flow.
