Celebration Freedom

Tired ... sunburnt ... but happy ....

Poem Artwork

Helicopter blades slap
the air, stirring up dust,
chopping humidity
in half for a moment,
much to our happiness.

Military men and
women and Veterans
are honored with a free
lunch from the City, in
gratitude for service.

Shaded places and air
conditioned buildings are
the most popular spots
in the park until your
kids see the Water Zone.

Best giveaway for the
day:  free bottled water
to slake parched throats and pour
on overheated heads ---
plenty to go around.

The day deepens; shadows
grow long; soon it will be
time to gather under
the stars to end the day
on an explosive note.

Festival attendees
picnic in dusk's approach,
grateful for the breeze
making the afternoon's
white heat a memory.

The stars ignite, then, in
mortared thuds that turns night
into day, back again ---
twenty minutes resounds
through the park, shake our souls.

Tired, sunburnt, but happy,
we go our seperate
ways with promises to
meet next year, at Crowley's
Celebration Freedom.

Sunburn + happy seems a good combination for a crate with ice cold Coors bear if you ask me...
