There is a perfect patch of blue,
a tonsure surrounded by a head
of grey. The old man chuckles
in a rumble of thunder, 'It will
surely rain, today.' He mutters
with ozone-sharp breath, 'I hope
you have your um-brrr-el-llllla
with you.' I giggle and tell him,
'Dear Grampa, it's right beside
me ------ yes, indeed, I do.'
He puts his great big hand in my
tiny one and we go out into the
wet. I think to myself, I've got
the bestest Grampa, ain't found
a better one YET.' (THE END.)
I did not ever see or talk to one of my grandfathers. The other passed away when I was quite young. I only remember very little of him. Wish I would have had more time to know him and learn from him. Your poem tugs strongly at me. We should honor our grandparents often and lovingly. Thanks. God bless. JMW
Love it and reminds me of my own grandchild, in the midst of a birthday party here on Sat for my other grandchild, with ten kids running around she came to me and said she had no one to play with, could I play pirate with her...you can guess the answer. lol
