... muscles bunched under,
prepared to spring. i
leap, catch uneven
bars of poetry,
nod to coach: ready.
can't let my fellow
competitors see
nervousness; trained for
this; can do it in
my sleep. i know my
routine has enough
difficulty to
impress the judges;
have to be p e r f e c t.
one last word and it's
time for the dismount:
must. stick! the landing
to have a chance of
medaling in the
Olympics of verse ...
I was just watching the women's beach volley ball last night, when the American girls grabbed gold. I didn't realize I was a fan. It must be the spirit of the games that infected me. I see the games inspired you to write! Love and Hugs,

Funny girl! She's the crowd-favorite. She leaps the last line... and SHE STICKS IT!! The crowd roars. The judges, eyes turned inward in silent reverie wait (pause) the audience chatter dies down to whispers. And one by one, the judges right their scores... Denmark gives her a 10! Russia gives her a 7.9. France gives her a 6. Sweden gives her a 10! USA gives her a 10! and she... she takes the GOLD! (you should have seen the smug girls' scores...lamentable) --Charlie
You did a great job of capturing the work, the practise, the mind set and above all else the heart that these young atheletes put into each and every performance. Well done Karla.

The buildup, the moment of challenge, action, outcome. It's amazing at how much hard work goes into attaining the grace and perfection those young folks in the olympics have. That same effort is also exhibited by poets such as you who keep practicing and perfecting their art. Good write.
