I am fine, Karen is fine ... and this isn't about OUR Bonnie. This is written for Charlie's friend, Bonnie, who was badly injured in a terrible accident. Please say a prayer for her ...

... the small hours of the morning
are worst. Alone, except for the
beeping of an IV monitor and pain.
Hurts to move. Soft-soled nurses
bring relief on the end of needles,
timed to four-hour intervals. Hear
muted calls of night on overhead
speakers: someone else needs
help. And as I lay here, a smile
comes to my face. In this house
of healing, you gave me the most
precious medicine of all: h o p e,
when you said you'd be back in
the morning. No doctor could do
that: loved how you talked about
how good I looked, even though
we both know it's not true : still ...
will take anything I can get. They
say laughter is good for whatever
aills ... visiting hours start at 9:00.
